Announcing the New Penn Glee Club Director

Letter from the President

December 1, 2024

Dear Glee Club Alumni, Families, and Friends,

I hope you are having a restful weekend! I am excited to provide an update on the 2024 hiring process for the new Director of the University of Pennsylvania Glee Club.

It is my distinct pleasure to announce that the Board of Governors and Platt Student Performing Arts House have reached a special agreement to extend Sam Scheibe’s contract through the 2025-2026 academic year. This arrangement allows Sam to fulfill all responsibilities as the Director, including our winter training week (FAHW), show week, Alumni Weekend, and our upcoming tour to Asia.

It was clear from working with Sam during New Student Orientation and audition week that he is exactly what the Glee Club needs to drive forward our artistic endeavors. This was many months in the making behind the scenes and would not have been possible without the help from the following individuals:

Timothy Dietrich (N’25), Vice President and Student Conductor

McKenna Sun (C’25), Business Manager and Student Conductor

Ivan Lin (C’27), Finance Manager

Laurie McCall, Director of Student Performing Arts

It has been an incredible experience working with Sam and his artistic vision for the club for the last three months. Sam has been an extraordinarily positive influence on the club's music, culture, and ambition. He has a clear enthusiasm for music education and performance, and he has left an incredible impact on our students in the short time that he has been here. Sam has a unique ability to cultivate creativity, compassion, and capability across all our students regardless of their experience coming into the club, and he has made incredible strides in fostering interoperability and interconnectivity across all our sections.

In his short time at Penn, Sam has strengthened the club’s relationship with Penn Music, Glee Club, and Penn Alumni at large, composers and conductors across the U.S. (notably our recent workshop with Jennifer Lucy Cook, composer of one of our favorite fall show pieces, Time), and has advanced music pedagogy at an approachable level for all of our students.

This arrangement would not be possible without Sam’s shared enthusiasm for the organization. His commitment to travel between Lexington and Philadelphia is a testament to his investment in the Glee Club, and we could not be more proud and excited to reciprocally invest our trust in him.

Please join me in congratulating Sam and officially welcoming him as the Director of the University of Pennsylvania Glee Club.

In song,

Kyne “goobery” Wang, President

University of Pennsylvania Glee Club
